Marta Ferri x de Gournay

de Gournay have been working on a unique project with Italian designer Marta Ferri, renowned for her elegant dresses in colourful, uplifting prints, exclusively made with upholstery fabrics. Marta has re-purposed some of the hand painted fabrics from the archive, previously created for interiors and no longer in use, to create a small number of custom-made pieces, put together entirely by hand in her Milanese atelier.

Conceived amidst the charm of her home in the Italian countryside this project is a harmonious pairing between Marta’s unique re-use of furnishing fabrics, with de Gournay’s rich archive of hand painted vintage wallpapers and textiles.

Sourced from de Gournay’s archive of vintage wallpaper panels – designs hand painted over 20 years ago – Marta Ferri has installed ‘Jardin Chinois’ within the entrance of her Varese home, just outside of Milan.

“It was a bit by chance that we came across the house: it was just after the very first Covid lockdown in Italy, and while we were daydreaming about a different life immersed in nature we randomly found the ad online about the house being for sale. We didn’t really take it seriously, and one day, to avoid the boredom of another day locked up inside, we organised a day trip to Varese without expecting too much from it. As soon as we arrived we immediately realised how special this place was and we knew straight away that this was going to become our new home” Marta Ferri

A bespoke scenic wallpaper created with Marta Ferri for her children’s bedroom, depicting an exotic landscape filled with wildlife and teeming foliage. The lush tropical scene transports its young inhabitants to faraway lands, courtesy of striking Jaguar, Giraffes, Zebra and Monkeys. A captivating installation, with the hand painted addition of one of their very own soft toys hidden within the landscape.
